Choose Gang Free provides services for youth throughout Salt Lake County, youth receive a highly trained advocate that will tailor our evidence based curriculum to their needs and help provide their families with wrap around services. Youth who participate in our program should exhibit at-risk gang behaviors and/or be gang involved.
Youth who qualify for Secondary Prevention must be enrolled at one of our participating schools, youth who qualify will participate in lessons from our evidence based curriculum as well as Life Skills, Social and Emotional learning and will meet with a Choose Gang Free Advocate once a week to help focus on the importance of pro-social opportunities, school attendance and being on track to graduation.
Youth who qualify for our Intervention Program may come from a participating school, through JJS, Probation or any other state/county programs. Youth will meet with their assigned advocate once a week for no less than an hour to participate in lessons from our evidence based curriculum that focus on their at-risk gang behaviors. Youth will have to complete a minimum of 16 weeks successfully to graduate the Choose Gang Free program. Advocates will work with families, School Admin, Probation Officers/Case Managers to build a case plan for each participant. Youth will be given tailored lessons from our evidence based curriculum to work towards building a better future. Youth who graduate the program will be placed in aftercare where they will have a Mentor who helps guide them through Life Skills, Social and Emotional learning and focusing on school attendance and graduation or exploring/ entering the work force.
